When children thrive, their desire to learn increases. Creative and social settings strengthen both their development and motivation throughout their school years. Music creates a unique framework for interaction and development across ages and levels.

Case

"Even though I'm not there, the children go out and play music themselves, it's fantastic..."

At Østervangskolen, they have established what is now Denmark's largest outdoor music playground. Here, children can play drums, xylophones, marimbas, rainbow-colored chimes and much more.

"These are instruments that are freely available to everyone. It is very important that you find a good location where there is some flow of people passing by."

Lars Ginge Skov, Music and Physical Education Teacher, Østervang School

Inclusion through music

Outdoor musical instruments provide schools and kindergartens with an excellent opportunity to integrate outdoor learning on a music playground into everyday life. The instruments create inclusive communities across age groups and bring children together for a shared activity on the music playground.

Children love that music can be used in a context outside the classroom. The use of the pentatonic scale makes the instruments so easy to play that children are able to develop musical skills in the music playground, without having to cope with the technical demands of traditional instruments. These instruments immediately demonstrate what can be expressed and achieved through music.

Musical learning and active play

The instruments contribute to creating an outdoor environment that supports young children's health, well-being, development and learning.

We believe that creativity, imagination and discovery should be strongly promoted and encouraged through musical play and through active learning: hands-on, interactive games, children's musical self-expression, self-confidence and self-esteem will grow and grow.
